This Friday, May 18th, FFDG in San Francisco will be hosting the triumphant return of artist Dave Kinsey for his first solo show in the Bay Area in over ten years. Kinsey, who we featured way back in HF Vol. 13, is widely considered a founding father of the new contemporary West Coast scene. His early street campaigns alongside a young Shepard Fairey gained them both acclaim, and Kinsey’s gallery work has been a hit in the fine art world as well (see our coverage of his most recent solo at Joshua Liner here.)

For ‘Lost for Words,’ Kinsey’s latest looks to expand on his figurative roots, incorporating elements of collage (book pages notably and hence the show title perhaps) with bright contrasting colors and sharp geometry on panels of chipboard. Get a peek at some of the new work, as well as inside the artist’s studio,

Jesse Treece intrigues us all once again!

Titled “The city’s been dead (since you’ve been gone),” the collage depicts a reversed scene of soaring cars (neon-like streaks) almost appearing to be engulfing a “city” of both rural and urban structures. By juxtaposing two contrastingly different styles of living, perhaps Treece responds to the inevitable nature of time.

That’s my opinion. What do you think?

Be sure to check out more of Jesse Treece’s works on his own tumblr here as well as his Society6 store here!

‘Quantum blink’ series by Isabel M. Martinez.

Martinez creates collages by capturing two instances in one image; she delicately slices photographs into strips, and assembles them alternatively as such.

According to Martinez, “I attempt to articulate something in between the freezing of time - that so often characterizes photography - and its relentless passing,’ says martinez. ‘I hint towards temporalities that are fluid, speculative, and somewhat loose. I am looking for the line that divides the finite (probability) from the infinite (possibility).
it time is a succession of instants, I want to see what lies in between them. I am after the gaps between instant of consciousness.’” (Extracted from DesignBoom)

Wonder how much time this took. I think there’s one appropriate adjective for this piece: Perfection.
